The DIS Mentoring programme is a coach led resource helping athletes to develop the 6 key life skills we have identified to be essential to achieve successful in and out of sport. The key life skills that underpin the DIS mentoring programme are Confidence, Communication, Resilience, Motivation, Self-awareness, and Self-regulation. This programme makes use of resources designed by DIS performance Psychologists and coaches in combination with the facilitation of athlete led conversation from coaches that have first-hand experience training and competing in a high-performance sporting environment. 

DIS Mentors

Alex Van Enis

Alex Van Enis is the Head of Sports Science at the Derbyshire Institute of Sport and an Associate Lecturer at the University of Derby with a PhD in Neurophysiology, Biomechanics and Strength and Conditioning. Alex has been working with athletes at the DIS since 2018 and has supported athletes that have gone on to compete at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Alex’s is a former semi-professional football player having played academy football.

Aaron Anderson

Senior Strength and Conditioning coach Aaron Anderson is a former American Football player having represented GB and has graduated from the University of Derby with a BSc in Strength and Conditioning and an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Science. Aaron has multiple years of experience supporting athletes from a wide variety of sports leading with care and attention with experience of supporting athletes to the Paralympic Games.

Lewis Fox

Lewis Fox is a former semi-professional football player and Senior Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Derbyshire Institute of Sport with a BSc in Strength and Conditioning and an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Science. Lewis has vast experience working with athletes from multiple sports and across all ages helping them to be the best athletes they can be.
