DIS launches Derbados Cycle Challenge 2020

September 2, 2020

Cycling is a great way to improve physical and mental health – and it’s good for the environment too. A desire to get outdoors with friends and family during the pandemic has led to more people than ever turning to pedal power.

Now, we're setting the Derbados Cycle Challenge to encourage more people to be active this month.

All ages and all abilities are welcome to sign up and complete either 10, 20 or 50 miles. You can take as long as you like, and split your chosen distance over as many days as you wish, as long as you’ve completed your chosen distance by September 28.

The Derbados Cycle Challenge is being organised in partnership with Derbyshire businesses HUUB and Sky Recruitment Solutions; cycling giants Raleigh and the Great British Children’s Challenge.

The challenge will raise money for our work to support talented athletes with a dream to be a champion at any level.

Everyone who completes 10 miles and donates, or raises through sponsorship, £10 will receive a Tour de France medal and a Derbados certificate.

Everyone who completes 20 miles, and donates or raises £20, will receive a Derbados car sticker and a £10 HUUB voucher. Everyone who completes 50 miles, and donates or raises £50, will receive a limited edition Derbados T-shirt and a £10 HUUB voucher.

Dean Jackson, founder of HUUB - a world leader in wetsuit, triathlon and cycling apparel – is also rallying together a group of friends who will be cycling 200 miles during the month!

Our managing director Chloe Maudsley said: “If you’d like to support our work, but can’t take on the Derbados Cycle Challenge for any reason, you could donate to sponsor Dean and his team. Follow our social media channels and we’ll be featuring some of the places that they ride to – picking up on local cycle paths and beauty spots.

“We’ll be setting up the cycle challenges on the running and cycling app, Strava, so you can use this if you want to see how you are doing during the month compared to others – but that’s optional.”

To register for the challenge, email info@derbyshireis.co.uk. You’ll be asked for the names (and ages if under 16) of you and your group. Let DIS know when you’ve completed the challenge and donated your money and they’ll contact you to arrange to send you your rewards.

Money can be donated at https://www.gofundme.com/f/derbados-2020
